Atlanta rapper DJ Unk has died at the age of 43. Yet, the cause of death is not known. He was the hip-hop icon, born Anthony Leonard Platt, who worked on the memorable 2006 hits 'Walk It Out' and '2 Step'. Several family members and colleagues confirmed the news on Friday.
The rapper's wife Sherkitha Long-Platt expressed her grief on Facebook, saying, 'Our lives will never be the same again. I will always love you, Anthony.' The cause of his death is not yet known. May his soul rest in peace. Big Oomp Records also confirmed his death on social media, the same label that signed DJ Unk in 2000.
The label said, 'With a heavy heart and profound sadness we announce the passing of a true ATL legend, Anthony Platt, better known as 'DJ Unk'.' Referring to his legacy, the statement said, 'Hits like Walk It Out and 2 Step have left an indelible mark on the industry.'
DJ Unk began his career in the late 1990s as a Southern-style DJ. He was one of the pioneers of snap music, a sub-genre of crunk, which gained mainstream success in the mid-2000s. His songs Walk It Out and 2 Step reached No. 2 and No. 4 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart. He suffered a heart attack in 2009, which he attributed to his constant touring, poor diet, and drug abuse.
