Recently, Kannada actress Ranya Rao was arrested for smuggling gold from Dubai. Now, new details in the case are coming out. The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) came forward with the information that Ranya was provided with land by the former BJP government in February this year to start a steel factory. The board reacted to reports that the company owned by the actress was provided with 12 acres of industrial land by KIADB in the year 2023.

The Minister for Medium and Large Industries MB Patil issued the government's February 22, 2023, last notification for allotment of land to Ranya's business house Kshirodha India at the Sira Industrial Area in the Tumakuru district. The allotment to the Rao-linked business house was announced in January 2023 by the office in a press release. KIADB CEO Mahesh in a statement made on Sunday said Kshirodha India was given 12 acres of land by the former government on January 2, 2023.

According to the KIADB press release, the company had submitted a proposal to set up a steel plant for steel TMT bars, rods, and allied products with an investment of Rs 138 crore. The project was expected to generate around 160 jobs.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had on Wednesday said that gold rods worth Rs 12.56 crore were seized from Ranya at the Kempegowda International Airport. Subsequently, searches were conducted at her house and gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency worth Rs 2.67 crore were also seized. Ranya is the stepdaughter of senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao. The DGP rank officer is currently serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. A total of Rs 17.29 crore has been seized in the entire case, which includes assets worth Rs 4.73 crore.
