Raj Shekhar appealed to the listeners to find the name of the lyricist whenever you listen to songs
Raj Shekhar: Recently, in a program, lyricist Raj Shekhar talked about the songs written by him. He says that his songs are not given credit. Garima Wahal has supported him and said that she will fight for her words.
Lyricist Raj Shekhar is well-known for having written the songs of 'Tanu Weds Manu' and 'Animal'. He believes that he has written close to 100 songs in the last year alone. He has not received credit for approximately 30 of these songs though. Lyricist Raj Shekhar has stated that the industry has to unite to maintain writers' dignity.
Lyricist Raj Shekhar has composed songs like 'Pahale Bhi Main' of 'Animal', 'Ishq Hai' of 'Mismatched-3' and 'Jaane De' of 'Kaareeb Kaareeb Single'. He has opined that 'we are in that transition phase. We are making mistakes, step by step we realize where we go wrong.' Out of every 100 tracks, approximately 28-30 tracks belong to us but we have not got credit for that.
In a program named 'Words That Sing', Raj Shekhar said 'This is me, but what about those people who cannot speak for themselves. I appeal to the listeners that if they like the song, then they should find the name of the lyricist. We write with a lot of passion and hard work.' The 'Words That Sing' session took place under the 7th edition of the Indian Screenwriters Conference. Raj Shekhar said that there is a need for cooperation between the director and the lyricist.
According to Raj Shekhar, 'There is a lot of gap between the screenwriter and the lyricist. It happened many times that I came to know about a song on WhatsApp, but did not know where it came from. The kind of cooperation that was there between the director and the writer in the times of Raj Kapoor and Shailendra is not there in today's time.'
Lyricist Garima Wahal was also present with Shekhar in this session. She is famous for writing songs for 'Bajirao Mastani', 'Padmaavat', 'Animal' and 'Kalki 2898 AD'. Wahal said that there should be a system in music streaming platforms so that artists can be given credit. We will fight not just for credit but for our words.
