Producer Chitra Vakil Sharma: Films and television have the incredible ability to influence mindsets and inspire action

Producer Chitra Vakil Sharma, who is part of shows such as Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Tandoor, Rakthanchal, Bhram, says that this Independence Day, actors and other public figures must work on influencing the masses in the right manner.

“As a producer, I've always believed that films and television have the incredible ability to influence mindsets and inspire action. We tell stories that resonate with people's lives, dreams, and struggles, and through these narratives, we can promote progressive values, encourage critical thinking, and foster a spirit of innovation and inclusivity. As we move towards a "Viksit Bharat," our industry plays a pivotal role in shaping perceptions and aspirations, ultimately contributing to a more enlightened and forward-thinking society,” she says.

She adds, “As content creators, we have the responsibility to celebrate our rich heritage while also challenging outdated norms and stereotypes. By doing so, we can promote a more inclusive and progressive India, where every voice is heard, and every story is valued. It's about creating content that not only entertains but also empowers and enlightens.”  Ask her what makes her feel that she is living in independent India, and she says, “Living in India, what makes me feel truly independent is the freedom to express myself through my work and the liberty to explore and create without boundaries. This country’s diversity is its strength, and as a producer, I find immense joy in bringing a variety of stories to life, each with its unique flavour and message.”
