Oscar-winning film-maker Christopher Nolan, along with his wife, Emma Thomas, have been bestowed upon 'knighthood' and 'damehood', respectively, by the King of the United Kingdom, Charles III for their contribution towards film. At Buckingham Palace, a ceremony was conducted wherein the power couple received respective royal honours on Wednesday.

The news was announced by the Royal Family via its official social media handle, which came as it congratulated all those named in the honors lists, including Nolan and Thomas. One photo read, "Rise up, Sir Christopher Nolan and Dame Emma Thomas! Congratulations to all those who were honored during today's Investiture ceremony, including film director Christopher Nolan and filmmaker Emma Thomas." The creative partners have worked on the projects 'The Dark Knight Trilogy' and 'Oppenheimer.'. Their collaboration was recognized as having a great influence on the film world, hence the reason behind their receiving this prestigious honor.

The title for the men is 'Knighthood', while it is given as 'Damehood' to the women. This allows both to have given to them the title sir or dame before the name. Christopher Nolan secured his first Oscar for Best Director with the movie 'Oppenheimer' starring Cillian Murphy, in early 2024. The film is based on the life of American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who played a very important role in developing nuclear weapons during World War II.
