On this 78th Independence Day we asked versatile actress Rinku Ghosh about her way of feeling independent. ”Independence to me is being able to live your life the way you want. Since my father was in Navy there was a certain discipline in the house. In fact, my parents always encouraged us (me and my sister) to pursue our hobbies and give us the freedom to choose our careers for ourselves. So when I decided to pursue acting there was no problem at home. In fact, I was always encouraged.”
She also adds, ”As a woman, I actually felt more liberated after I got married. My husband always encourages me not to be dependent on him. He believes women should be self sufficient and be able to deal with every situation in life. It is important for a woman to be independent financially and emotionally irrespective of whether she is career woman or a homemaker. She needs to be independent and courageous to face the world alone if needed. I have always noticed independent woman are confident and are also quick decision makers. Our nation has come a long way; I just feel literacy is one thing which we are still far behind.” Rinku also shares how the content of Indian films and television has changed over the years. “There are more scripts around a woman, about their independence - mentally or financially. Films like Thappad, Queen, Pink, has only helped the content much more meaningful to the audience.”
