As reported by the media, Mallika said after the release of the film, her effigies reached the funeral pyre, and she received severe criticism, but she did not focus on criticism; instead, she looked at the positives coming her way. Recounting the murder and the incident featuring Mahesh Bhatt on a news channel, Mallika said, "I went to a news channel with Bhatt sahab during the murder and the news anchor started reading the lyrics to me. He focused on some words and he asked me, 'Aren't you ashamed?' I told him, 'No, I wasn't ashamed. In fact, I enjoyed it a lot.' He was shocked that a girl could talk to him like that. I was very open about it."
Further, Mallika said, "Shame has locked women in a cage, but I think that is really deteriorating now compared to 2004. Women have become more open-minded now compared to earlier. After the murder, they burnt my effigies. At that time, the society was neither ready for me nor murder."
