Ila Arun Praises Vidya Balan at Mumbai LitFest: 'I See Meena Kumari in Her'
Renowned artist Ila Arun paid tribute to actress Vidya Balan by drawing parallel between the two comparing her with the legendary Meena Kumari.

At the Mumbai LitFest's "Celebrating Women: Renowned artist Ila Arun paid tribute to actress Vidya Balan by drawing parallel between the two comparing her with the legendary Meena Kumari at the Shashi Baliga Memorial session — My Medley. Arun’sAutobiography Parde Ke Peechhey formed the basis of the session that had a panel comprising Arun, Vidya Balan and Anjula Bedi.
But, Arun revealed that she has dedicated a special section in her book to Vidya, and as a part of that, has talked highly of her stunning debut in Parineeta (2005). Arun shared an excerpt at the event where she described Vidya as a rare talent with an expressive face and emotional depth whose presence reminded her of the kind of heroines we previously enjoyed from Hindi cinema's golden era. "Arun said she brought back the dignity of the original Parineeta and the beauty of Meena Kumari."
Arun praised Vidya for her ability to morph on camera and portray emotionally intense roles with aplomb during their collaboration in Begum Jaan, he told GQ. She also even went on to say that Vidya would have been perfect for a biopic on Meena Kumari or a remake of Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam.
Arun's song, together with Vidya Balan joining him on stage, ended the session on a high note.
