Famous filmmaker Arindam Sil in deep trouble for sexual harassment allegations, suspended from Directors Association
The regional film industry has come under fire these days for sexual harassment. Recently, many famous producers and directors from Malayalam cinema were accused of sexual harassment, after which there was a stir among social media users. Now another famous filmmaker has been accused of sexual harassment.
Many types of revelations have been coming out about sexual harassment in the film industry. The truth of Malayalam cinema, which everybody was unaware of until now, has recently been told to the people. After the disclosure of allegations regarding the harassment of the actress, cases were registered against many producers and directors one after another. Meanwhile, this MeToo movement, which took momentum recently into Malayalam cinema, has now reached the Bengali film industry.
DAEI has suspended Bengali filmmaker-actor Arindam Sil on grounds of complaints of sexual harassment. Suspended on the basis of evidence, the association alleged that the incident occurred on the film set. "A letter was written against Arindam through which he was suspended as part of the conspiracy to defame the organization,".
The statement issued by DAEI said, "Some allegations have been made against you and the evidence we have is a matter of serious concern and is defaming the entire organization. In such a situation, DAEI has decided to suspend you from membership till there is clarification on the allegations against you."
There was an uproar amid the allegations of sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry in the Hema Committee report. Superstar Mohanlal resigned from the post of President of the Malayalam Movie Actors Association. Earlier, he also had to face trolling for keeping silence in the matter while being the president. Not only this, but the association also dissolved in no time.
Arindam Sil is a well-known name in the Bengali film industry. He is known for films like 'Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh', 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshi', 'Te3n'. He was also honored with the Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Samman by the Government of West Bengal in 2014.
