Early box office figures for Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha Day 1: Before night showing, Ajay Devgn-Tabu's romantic thriller brings in less than Rs 50 lakh.
Opening day at the box office for Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, starring Tabu and Ajay Devgn, is a miserable affair as the film sold less than 5000 tickets before its release on Friday. The romantic thriller is expected to have a terrible opening weekend at the box office; industry tracker Sacnilk reports that as of 4 p.m. on Friday, it hasn't even brought in Rs 50 lakh. The movie claimed that only 6% of the morning shows were occupied.
With barely Rs 38 lakh in box office receipts as of right now, and the profits from the usually profitable evening performances still unaccounted for, the movie is not only getting off to a poor start, but is also essentially without legs. Surprisingly, both Tabu and Ajay Devgn have had successful movies this year alone. Tabu acted in Crew, while Ajay starred in the unexpected smash Shaitaan. In India, the cumulative revenue from both films exceeded Rs 200 crore. Drishyam 2, which Ajay and Tabu co-directed a few years ago, grossed nearly Rs 300 crore globally.
Just two recent films, Maidaan and Runway 34, had their debuts with less than Rs 10 crore, demonstrating Ajay Devgn's ability to provide reliable openers. This is going to be Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha's worst opening performance in maybe twenty years. At the box office, his 2008 flick Halla Bol earned in less than Rs 3 crore.
In addition, the film represents a low point for filmmaker Neeraj Pandey, who rose to fame with A Wednesday and went on to helm successes like Baby and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. With programs like Special OPS, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, and The Freelancer, he has had success on streaming platforms in recent years.
