His love for storytelling and a chance encounter with the performing arts during his school days was what led director-writer Karan Gulianii to be sure that he wanted to enter showbiz. He adds that he feels lucky to be in a profession that allows him to tell stories. “In our generation, back in the 1980s, kids often figured out their career paths after finishing 12th grade or graduation. But, for me, it was different. When I was in 6th grade, I was selected for a school play and won the best actor award. Our play also won at the state level, earning us a gold medal and a huge shield. From that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue acting,” he says. He adds, “Later, while working on another play, I was narrating a sequence to a fellow actor. That actor suggested I had a knack for directing because of the way I conveyed my vision. I realized I wasn’t fully satisfied with my acting career, but I was passionate about storytelling.
Since childhood, I have loved telling stories. So, from 6th grade, I knew I wanted a career in the entertainment industry, whether in acting, directing, storytelling, or writing.” He says that he feels lucky to be doing what he loves. “I believe this is the best part of my life. From a young age, as I mentioned, I wanted to be in the entertainment industry as a storyteller. I love creating and telling stories. That’s what I enjoy the most. I've seen many people choose their careers based on how much money they can make. But for me, since deciding in 6th grade, it has always been about telling stories, stories of different genres, different people, and especially human stories. This is my motivation and passion. I feel blessed to be in a profession where I can tell stories. It gives me the most satisfaction in life,” he says.
He adds, “All my friends have been involved in the entertainment industry in some way whether as actors or in direction. I firmly believe that we creative people have a purpose: to create and tell different stories, to bring smiles to people's faces. For any creative person's decisions to be genuine, they must come from the gut. If it doesn't come from within, I don't think it can truly be creative.”
