Blue Origin created history with women space crew, Katy Perry traveled to space with five women

Jeff Bezos' company Blue Origin made history. His fiancée Lauren Sanchez flew to space with an all-female celebrity crew. Celebrities such as popular singer Katy Perry were among them. 'CBS Mornings' anchor Gayle King was also on their team. This trip is a part of the latest wave of space tourism that allows now rich and popular people to travel to space with ease.

Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket launched from West Texas. It soared to an altitude of around 105 kilometers, with no-gravity experiences for the guests for a few minutes. It was a 10-minute automated flight. Lauren Sanchez is herself a helicopter pilot and former TV journalist. She invited special guests for this flight. Accompanying him were movie producer Carianne Flynn, NASA-educated former NASA Engineer Aisha Bowe, and researcher Amanda Nguyen.

This flight was also special because all the passengers in it were women. This was the second time in the 64-year history of space travel that an all-female crew went to space. Earlier in 1963, Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova went to space alone. Even today, the share of women among astronauts is only 15 percent. Lauren specially chose women for this flight so that they could inspire the youth and the elderly to dream big. She also got special flight suits designed for this.

Katy Perry called this flight a big step for humanity and women. She said, 'This is a special moment for the future of commercial space travel.' Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey also reached Texas to see this launch. This was Blue Origin's 11th human space flight. Jeff Bezos started this company in the year 2000 after earning from Amazon. He himself participated in the first space tourist flight of Blue Origin in 2021. This time he took Lauren and her team to the launch pad.
