The name of Bollywood's great lyricist Anand Bakshi is still in the hearts of people. The songs he wrote in his life remain evergreen even today. But do you know that Anand Bakshi never wanted to become a lyricist? His dream was to become a singer, but fate gave him to Bollywood as a magician of words.

Anand Bakshi was born on July 21, 1930, in Rawalpindi (now Pakistan) in a Mohyal Brahmin family. His mother died when he was just five years old. At the time of partition, his family came to India and settled in Delhi. At the age of 14, he served in the 'Royal Indian Navy' in Karachi, but after being expelled from the Navy, he joined the Army. In 1950, he headed towards Mumbai with the dream of becoming a singer and lyricist.

After reaching Mumbai, Anand Bakshi met actor Bhagwan Dada, who gave him a chance to write songs in his film 'Bhala Aadmi'. Although he did not get any special recognition for this film, it proved to be the first step in his entry into Bollywood.

In the year 1963, Raj Kapoor gave Anand Bakshi a chance to sing in his film 'Mehndi Lagi Mere Haath'. But his real identity came from the songs 'Pardesiyon Se Na Akhiyan Milana' and 'Yeh Sama, Sama Hai Yeh Pyar Ka' from the 1965 film 'Jab Jab Phool Khile'. These songs made Anand Bakshi a lyricist who rules the hearts of music lovers.

Anand Bakshi received 40 Filmfare nominations in his career, out of which he won the award only four times. He worked with many famous composers, but his pairing with R.D. Burman was especially successful. Together, the two gave many superhit songs like 'Mehbooba Mehbooba', 'Sawan Ka Mahina', 'Om Shanti Om', and 'Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge'.

Anand Bakshi was suffering from heart disease in his last days. He said goodbye to this world on 30 March 2002. His smoking habit became a major reason for his death. He left behind countless great songs, through which he is still alive in the hearts of fans.
