Alka Yagnik refused to work with AR Rahman one time, said- I did not know him
Alka Yagnik has spread the magic of her voice in many Bollywood films. She has sung many superhit songs which are still famous. At the same time, AR Rahman is considered one of the biggest composers of Bollywood today. But there was a time when both these popular singers did not want to work together.
AR Rahman is one of the most prominent music composers today in this country. Well, there was a time when his name was not buzzing like it is today as revealed by well-known singer Alka Yagnik during an interaction recently.
Alka Yagnik said that the time came when she and Kumar Sanu used to avoid working with AR Rahman. But later, both of them regretted it a lot.
In a conversation with Radio Nasha, Alka Yagnik had said that people scarcely knew Rahman within the industry during those early days; though down south, he was pretty well known. "I still remember that I got a call from Chennai from Rahman saying that he is a big fan of mine and wants to make a complete soundtrack with me and Kumar Sanu. Rahman was making songs for this film.".
Alka Yagnik further said that one problem was Rahman was calling her immediately, while the dates of the singers were already booked somewhere else. I had worked with so many composers in Mumbai and had made a rapport with them that I did not want to leave them, that too for someone whom I did not know well.
After this, Alka Yagnik called Kumar Sanu and told him about the offer. His reaction too was the same as Alka's. He too had never heard about AR Rahman. Alka said that at that time both of us rejected this proposal but later when I heard the songs composed by him, I felt like banging my head against the wall.
